I often joke that I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided I wanted to start a blog. I initially had this vision of creating a platform on which I could introduce unique brand combinations, showcase amazing Etsy talent and explore inspiration boards. While the majority of our posts are created, edited and maintained by me and my cousins, Ashlen and Rachel, whippedSTYLE is a unique blog in that it is also a platform for a few other, very special contributors.
I opened my blog up to contributing bloggers for a couple reasons, but, most notably, was this:
My cousin Rebekah once said to me, “the best leaders and entrepreneurs in life know and accept their shortcomings and they find the right people to fill in for those opportunities.” She might not know this but I’ve thought about that statement a lot (she’s one of those insightful people who always says one-liners you remember for years). So I thought, “if I want to start a successful blog with new and original content every day, I need to accept one important truth: While I may have some shining moments of creativity and love blogging, I can’t, by myself, come up with 1-2 (or more) posts of original content every day. I can, however, edit and align other people’s work and help guide their ideas into something awesome.” Luckily, this idea has worked out beautifully and afforded whippedSTYLE the unique ability to post 10-14 posts a week– and I think that’s what our readers have come to expect and appreciate. Rebekah might not even remember making this statement to me. In fact, I’m sure she doesn’t. But it really shaped a little aspiration of mine and I love that by accepting my shortcomings with respect to my goals, I have given opportunity to other bloggers, allowed them to explore their creativity, helped shape them in some way (I hope), and created a blog that, hopefully, inspires people on a daily basis to try new things, browse Etsy a little more and stretch their creativity. While I would hardly call myself an “entrepreneur,” I gotta say, that feels pretty awesome.
But to add confetti icing on the cake cake, I have gained so much more than that these last four months (This is the part where I secretly hope none of my “real-life” friends are reading and that this is in fact just 600-2,000 random visitors I’ve never met). Fears of getting made fun of aside, let me be completely honest– The people I’ve “met” through blogging have just brought so much to my life. And it’s weird to admit that. After all, many of us have never actually met. But having just entered into the blogosphere in February, I must say that in no other experience in my life have I been met with such support, acceptance, inspiration, excitement, encouragement, kind words and pleasant spirits.
The ladies I have come to “know” through blogging have just become, in some distant way, my best buddies. I can only compare it to what I imagine the days of pen pals were like. After all, according to the movie Julie and Julia, Julia Childs didn’t meet her very best friend (her pen pal) for years. So in this day of virtual pen pals and blogging buddies, I’m excited to get to the point of this long-winded post and introduce to you the whippedSTYLE blog roll. Sure you’ll find the bigger blogs we all love like Design Sponge and Cupcakes and Cashemere– but, more importantly, you’ll also find the blogs that have come to be our favorite daily reads written by our best buddies.
In the beginning of May, Brown Eyed Belle was kind enough to bestow upon me a Stylish Blogger Award. Her one request to the recipients of this award was that they pass it on in a more timely manner than she had. I regret to say I was unable to fulfill that request. But, better late than never!!! And in what better way could I do it than to ask you all to please look to the right of your screen and see the ladies that I not only call the most Stylish Bloggers, but that I love enough to give a permanent spot on the whippedSTYLE site. The blog roll is ever-growing and I’m sure I’m missing some– but to every blogger listed there, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inspiring me every day, supporting me and my cousins, Ash and Rachel, as well as Allie, Randi, Kathleen, Victoria and Susan (the WS team). Thank you so much for being the best virtual buddies a gal could ever ask for and for being nothing short of the best “roll” models imaginable. While I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I took this little project on, I’ve learned so much, gained so much, applied valuable lessons, learned valuable lesson and have had so much fun doing it thanks to you lovely ladies. XOXO!
