I was excited to try my own little version of the dip dye jeans after reading about the DIY project on Who What Wear.
I’ve had a bit of a hard time finding a pair of casual-wear white jeans so right when I read this I grabbed a pair of jeans I didn’t mind parting with and got to work.
I followed the instructions to a ‘T’ with the exception that I dunked the whole piece rather than just a top or bottom section. I was a little bummed at the 30 min mark to see that there was little action on the bleaching front…. In fact, I had to leave them in for about 2+ hours. After completing steps 4 and 5, I noticed they were blotchy and not quite the desired color–so I went in for a take two. For the second-time-around, I laid them flat in my tub so that the fabric could get equal bleach love and I let them soak for about another 2 hours. While the finished product wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for (or imagining, rather), I think I ended up with a pretty cute pair of light-wash jeans.
Last week I went to my husband’s family reunion in California (meeting much of his family in person for the first time) and they were the perfect “lounge around but still look cute” jeans. They’re just interesting enough to add a little pop of fun to “jeans and a T-shirt” and they still looked cute when I jazzed them up with a neutral knit and a statement necklace. All-in-all, I think it was a pretty successful DIY project.

Looks great. You did a good job…and yes…you can definitly dress that up with your shoes, jewelry or something fancy with your hair! Love it Casie!
