The stiletto heel. The ever-sexy, confidence-boosting, leg-elongating, make-you-feel-powerful stiletto heel. Who do we have to thank (or curse) for our obsession with sexy sexy heels?
There seems to be some debate about that. Both Salvatore Ferragamo and Roger Vivier, the designer for Dior responsible for introducing a shoe line in 1953, claim to be the first to unveil a steel-supported skinny heel. I just got finished watching the first season of Homeland so, as I see it, Vivier clearly had an informant in the Ferragamo house of design.
But no matter who we credit with the invention of the tootsie torturing heel, the legend lives on. And while somewhat poorly produced (sorry!), the documentary God Save My Shoes perfectly outlines why. I caught preview of God Save My Shoes this past summer and was stunned at how accurately it portrayed our love and obsession with stiletto heels. The film even proposes a few theories as to why both woman and men love sexy stiletto heels…
Women love the way stiletto heels make them feel empowered. Stiletto heels feed what it is men and women both want: thoughts of sex. Owowooooowwwwwwww!
But seriously, though–truth. Stiletto heels place the woman’s foot into a shape that is similar, if not identical, to the shape the foot takes when a woman orgasms. I didn’t quite buy that when I first heard it but then I, ahem, paid attention and, well, it’s true. Guess that’s how they make even jeans and a t-shirt feel sexy!

I love stilettos! I can’t wear them very often because of the pain, but they are too sexy for me to pass up!
