Happy May!! And it’s hair day!!! This time tomorrow I’ll be headed to the beach, but not without some “sun-kissed” locks. The thing is, my hair is super dark, so getting the naturally sun-kissed look can be a little more difficult for me.
It took me years–and several bad color jobs–to accept my espresso-toned hair. If you’re a brunette, you can relate. When lightened, brunette hair will either go brassy or ashy. Mine goes brassy–and it’s not cute. Luckily my hair guy (A.C. at The Shop in Bethesda–he’s amazing) has been in control of my locks for over five years now, so he knows how to manage both my hair and me. I always go in with ambitious hair ideas and he brings me back down to Earth, reminding me that the execution of many of my ideas would make me cry for days. And since he’s been right twice before, I just follow his lead. But I don’t think he’ll turn down these inspirations!
Here’s the images I plan to bring in. I think they’re perfect, don’t you!? The hair color is basically like an Ombre approach to highlighting. So not really an ombre… but not really just highlights. I want it to look natural, but not too natural because I still want it to have an slightly edgy appeal. What do you think? Do these images cut it?
My go-to has always been a messy bun, but sometimes my bangs decide to have a mind of their own and the messy bun just doesn’t work anymore. That is why the very cute, very elegant and easy-to-do side braid with a messy bun is my new go-to. So summery, right? It literally takes all of 10 minutes (maybe 5 if you’re a speedy braider) and the best part is that the look can transition from casual day to romantic dinner without having to re-do it. You only need 3 things to complete this look: a handful of bobby pins, a hair tie (optional) and a little hair spray. The tutorial at the end is perfection!
You know what happens when it rains all weekend? I dream about warm summer days at the beach. Almost every gal I know agrees that when you spend a few days reading + sunbathing + playing in the ocean, you look and feel better than ever!!! And while we all love the fresh tan and rested look in our eyes, most of us agree that one of our favorite beach looks-by-default is the fun, messy, sea-salted-kissed locks we have after sun bathing all day. Lucky for us, a few of our fave hair care brands have made products that do an incredible job recreating that beach bombshell look! Below is a quick and easy guide to choosing the best product for your hair.
P.S. If you think the beachy hair potions can get too pricey, check out thisAWESOME tutorial for DIY beach spray. It’s a must-try!
I received some samples of Davines Love Shampoo and Conditioner a few months ago, but since I receive samples so frequently (which I LOVE!! keep ‘em comin’!), I just casually tossed them into my big bag of samples-to-test. Big mistake. HUGE. If only I had known how amazing these products are, I would have bumped them to the front of the line much sooner!!!
I finally tried this Love potion out and, can I tell you, for the first time in a long time my hair felt pure and clean in a way that was light, soft and oh-so-dreamy. I used the smoothing line (though they do make one for curly hairy hair as well) and felt it offered up the perfect amount of volume and bounce–something I rarely experience with my longer locks. Loved it!!! And the scent? Perfection. It’s subtle and fresh with a hint of floral notes–not too much, but definitely not too little, which is perfect in my opinion since I tend to use a few styling products and hate clashing aromas. (I mean, don’t you?)
I also think the world Davines, which makes me love their Love even more–such a great family-owned company (you can read more about them here). I immediately ordered some on Amazon (because you can get bigger bottles) but you can also find Devines Love Shampoo and Conditioner at any Barneys location–You can even order minis to test out first for just 10 bucks. You won’t be disappointed!!!
Admittedly, I’ve never loved bangs. Some women can really pull them off, but I have never been one of those women. And regardless, I’ve always held the position that even women who can pull off bangs still look better without them. But leave it to this hotness and this eternal girl crush to totally prove me wrong. Thanks, New Girl. You’ve now given me the ridiculous hilarity that is Schmidt, AND a new found love for bangs. Dare I? I mean, how cute?!
Are you in a top knot by lunchtime every day? I am!!!! But I soooo love this hair style and think it just might squash my top knot tendencies. It secures just the right amount of hair away from your face but still looks super chic and effortless. You can find the full tutorial here–love!!!!–plus some of my must have hair tools for effortless and easy locks.
We can all breathe a sigh of relief!! Mad Men’s season premier aired last night and between the stunning decor and the breath-taking fashions, the eye candy did not disappoint. But besides the undeniably note-worthy ensembles in EVERY scene, here’s a few things Mad Men that you can’t miss:
