One of my best friends sent me a text last night confessing that she finally bought a pair of booties and felt a little lost on how to wear them. I can totally relate. As much as I LOVE ankle boots and booties, they can get tricky!
If you’re short and opt for the wrong ankle boot, you risk your legs looking stumpy. If you’re self conscious about your thighs, then your booties will need to have just the right heel height to lend to some slimming. Not to mention there’s the battle of the hem—your jeans can’t be too short or too long or too cuffed, oy!!! But!!!! It’s totally doable. The solution: buy and wear your ankle boots using the same rules you use for all your other shoes—theres a reason I’d never buy kitten heels, team. In addition to just not loving them, I’m short. I need more heel to slim my stems than a kitten can offer. Likewise, I don’t wear flats unless I have some ankle exposure. I apply that same rule to my ankle boots. My flat boots are only worn with shorts or cuffed denim—never skirts because they don’t offer the same optical illusion. Also, the colors you choose are so important. If you’re on the shorter side, pair darker booties with darker denim so that you can avoid highlighting the contrast. You get the idea. Need some inspiration? Here’s some of my favorite looks.
