For those of you who are still in collage, grad school or teaching, you’ve probably gone shopping for back to school digs (or are planning to do so this weekend during all the Labor Day sales). Sadly, I am currently doing none of the above. Perhaps I’m feeling sentimental having just finished my grad program, but I am a sucker for sexy and smart looks inspired by academia. And I’ve recently found some amazing pieces on Etsy to help you get the look!!! From book cover and bangles to custom designer pencils– these school girl-inspired finds are fabulous!

Etsy Goes to the Kentucky Derby
If there’s one thing about the Kentucky Derby that really makes it an experience, it’s the fashion and the larger-than-life HATS! There aren’t to many events these days that you can sport an outlandishly, fabulous hat, but on Derby Day, the bigger the better. We searched high and low and found some amazing Derby-worthy Etsy hat’s that are sure to be show stoppers.
Vintage Inspired Wedding Decor
These days weddings are all about the personal touches: hand made favors, personal vows, heirloom dresses and jewelry, etc. One great way to add a unique touch is to incorporate your personal decorating style into the event by using meaningful furniture and accessories in creative ways.
I loved this hot pink antique bureau used to hold popcorn:

Try scouring flea markets and yard sales for furniture in a style you love, and consider painting it to match your wedding color scheme. A bureau like this could be used as a buffet, to hold favors, or as a display for family photos or place cards.
I also love this tablescape (from the same wedding!):
Its such a wonderful mix of styles and textures — perfect for the vintage feel of this wedding, and very easily replicated. You could also use a mix of antique vases (or mint julep cups, creamers or pitchers!) on the table, such as this silver one:
I also love the trend of using picture frames in weddings; I’ve seen them used to hold place cards, photos of previous family weddings, menus, et c…
Just remember, you don’t have to rent everything from the caterer or the venue – the opportunities for using personal decorations in your wedding are endless! Haul down your entryway table for the seating card display; bring along your grandmother’s gilt frame mirror to hang over table; finally put your collection of cake stands to good use! Bottom line: if you love something in your home, people will love to see it in your wedding!
And here are a few more inspiration pics, that I couldn’t help but post…

Getting Organized With Etsy Finds
After reading our guest feature yesterday about getting organized, I became totally inspired to get busy!! I scoured Etsy for the best and most fun and creative ways to get organized. Here are some amazingly organized, yet livable rooms to get your creativity flowing. Be sure to check out all the organizing accessories and items that etsy has to offer your newly cleaned home! Courtney DiCarlo gave us some great tips for getting organized like being realistic about your space and how you use it. As an artist, I thought about how I like my space to inspire creativity but without overwhelming me. Here are some take-away tips for getting organized and staying organized:
Color: While I’m not a super matchy, matchy girl myself, I do have a soft spot for color coordinated books, closets and kitchens. Having lots of color can visually clutter any home, but before you go through and start throwing out all your colorful belongings try these suggestions. Why not group your shoes or clothing in your closet based on color, it will look lovely and help speed up your morning routine. For the kitchen a great way to be eclectic and organized is choose a color for your dishes and don’t worry about having all the same type. The color will unify them even though they aren’t all the same.
Get Creative: Like everything we do here at whippedSTYLE creativity is key. Think about how you can work the things in your home into your decor. If you collect specific types of things, why let them waste away in storage or the garage – display them! Collect old Skeleton Keys? Try framing them in a shadow box. Do you have every record you’ve ever bought? Don’t give them away, instead make or buy a shelving system. If you love something and it makes you happy then find a way to live with it in harmony.
